Joel Benguigui

Born in Denpasar, of East Indonesian heritage, Joel Benguigui grew up in Paris, painting alongside his adopted mother from the age of two, and experimenting with photography from the age of six. He now lives in Byron Bay, Australia, and works across three continents on assignments and personal projects. While Joel’s photographic work in black and white is loaded with emotion, spanning documentary storytelling, portraiture, and fashion editorial, his heavily textured painting is equally evocative and monochrome, exposing the fragility and power of nature.

We met Joel several years ago in Antwerp, and creatively “clicked”. Both a friend and collaborator, Joel has photographed our campaigns with ballerinas Juliet Burnett and Misako Kato.

Alba Amicorum has a selection of Joel’s photographic prints and paintings available.
